Students Give Minister of Education Tour of Scout Island

BC’s Minister of Education was in Williams Lake Tuesday morning to receive a tour of Scout Island from Grade 7 Students in the Outdoor Ed Academy.

Outdoor resource teacher Frances McCoubrey says she’s thrilled that Mike Bernier dropped in.

“I think that is really a pretty big step,” she says.

“It’s nice to know that our Minister of Education is coming out to the Districts to see what we’re doing, what kinds of great projects we’ve got going on, and also some of the challenges that we have because our District is a lot different from the other districts in the province.”

“Every district is unique.”

The students attend Scout Island 3 times a month to learn about ecosystems, winter adaptations, and outdoor survival, as well as writing and art.

Bernier, who was in Quesnel yesterday, will be in 100 Mile house this afternoon, touring Peter Skene Ogden and 100 Mile House Elementary.
