The Canadian Cancer Society announced the date and riders for Cops for Cancer Tour de North, with a few from the Cariboo.
The date is set for September 15th, beginning in Prince George, with Corporal Fraser Bjornson, representing Williams Lake’s RCMP detachment.
“I have had some family members with cancer, none in the childhood cancer, some of those that are pretty close to home,” says Bjornson.
“and looking at my own kids, they’re 9 and 10, if something like that ever happened to them, seems like something that I’d want to pre-emptively be involved in.”
The team of riders will spend the remaining time training and fundraising, which Bjornson says he’s looking to hit the $3,000 mark.
The money raised will go towards the Canadian Cancer Society in support of childhood cancer research, and Camp Goodtimes.
Two other Cariboo riders are Jamie MacPherson with 100 Mile House BC Emergency Health Services, and Anna Zintl with 100 Mile House Interior Health.
The total ride will be 800 kilometres, and will end in Prince Rupert on September 21st.
