Record Setting Heat in Williams Lake on Monday

Monday(May 15) was a record day in the Lake City.

“We did have record breaking temperatures right across the province including Williams Lake.” Meteorologist for Environment Canada Bobby Sekhon said, “A new record of 28.8 was set, the previous record was 26.1 from 1973. In the Clinton area had a new record of 28.8, previous record was 27 from 2019.”

It was hot as well in Quesnel but was it hot enough to establish a record there?

“They were just shy of the record there,” Sekhon said, “yesterday’s record was 32.8 from 1912. Today it’s going to be close again, 32.7 is the record from 2006 and we’re forecasting today a high of about 30.”

When asked about the smoke in the Cariboo Sekhon said it’s coming from north eastern BC and northern Alberta and being brought in by the easterly winds.

“Hopefully by the end of the week we’ll see the Westerly wind kick back in and push the smoke back away,” Sekhon added.
