Update: Williams Lake Fire Department Extinguishes Fire At The Columneetza School

Update

Just after 11 this morning the Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the cafeteria area at Columneetza.

“Upon arrival everybody was no longer in the building,” Fire Chief Evan Dean said, “we were able to knock down the fire relatively quickly. Crews were working within the building and once we had the fire knocked down we just had to do a fair bit of ventilation as there was quite a bit of smoke just in the cafeteria area.”

Dean added they responded with 24 fire fighters, 3 apparatus and were on scene for about an hour and a half.

“There was some damage, nothing too extensive, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined,” Dean said.

**original story**

The Williams Lake Fire Department is on the scene of a fire at the Williams Lake Columneetza Campus.

School District 27 stated in an email to parents that the fire originated at the cafeteria building.

It went on to say “The fire department is on site and has contained the fire to that site. We are awaiting word for the all clear to return to the main building. Please do not try to pick up students at this time as it makes access and movement of fire and school persons more difficult. If, for some reason, students are not able to return to the main campus, we will notify parents and caregivers of the transportation plan,” the District said.
