With temperatures seeming to stay hot for the next week, it’s important to keep your pets cool.
If animals are left alone with little to no cooling, they can end up getting heat stroke like humans.
“The AC running certainly makes a difference if you can keep the inside of the car cool, just like people, we’ll be cool if we have the AC going,” says Elizabeth Dighton, Manager at Williams Lake and District SPCA.
“but having that two inch crack on the top of your window really doesn’t allow a breeze to come in to help cool you down. It just doesn’t work.”
Dighton added that they received multiple calls about dogs being left in cars, but said there’s not a lot they can do.
She says the best thing is to let surrounding stores know, so they can call for the owner, and if that doesn’t work, call RCMP.
Some tips Dighton gave to help keep your pet safe include providing lots of water, give frozen treats.
