An emergency alert system test will be running today, as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.
The alert will be sent to all compatible smartphones, and be played through radio and television broadcasts at 1:55pm (Pacific Time).
With natural and climate related disasters becoming more frequent, the province is encouraging residents to be prepared for potential emergencies.
The message on the alert system test will read “This is a TEST of the BC Emergency Alert system. This is ONLY a TEST. In an emergency, this message would provide safety information that could save your life. Click for more info: www.emergencyinfobc.ca/alert. Again, this is ONLY a TEST. No action is required.”
The emergency alerting system is used for tsunamis, floods, wildfires, and police issue alerts for civil emergencies and Amber Alerts.
