Coralee Oakes, deputy chair of the special committee to appoint a representative, was part of a unanimous decision to select Dr. Jennifer Charlesworth to that position for another five year term.
“Dr. Charlesworth has a deep understanding of BC’s child and youth serving system as well as a strong commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable young people in our province. Our committee is confident Dr. Charlesworth will continue to be an effective representative, while keeping the well-being of children and youth at the forefront of her work.”
The representative for children and youth is an independent officer of the legislature responsible for advocating on behalf of children, youth and young adults, and their families.
They also monitor and report on services provided to children and youth, and review or investigate certain critical injuries and deaths.
Charlesworth was first appointed on October 1, 2018.
