Lake City Businesses nominated for Small Business Awards

The Realm of Toys is one of two businesses in Williams Lake that have been nominated for the 13th Annual Small Business BC Awards.

Co-owner Jazmyn Douillard says when they started their business and bought it, it was a second-hand book store.

“At the time though, we were thinking we were going to have to take it in another direction and then the toys just kind of fell into our lap and we decided to go with it and it has been absolutely amazing,” she says.

“We’ve more than tripled our product line since we started with the toys about a year and a half ago.”

As for who nominated the Realm of Toys for Best Concept?

Douillard says it’s the Lake City business that’s nominated for Best Community Impact!

“It’s pretty exciting. I believe Puddle Produce nominated us.”

Owner and operator of Puddle Produce, Brianna van de Wijngaard says she started Puddle Produce in 2013 with her first season.

“It’s just been growing ever since I guess you could say which is a terrible pun, but it’s true,” she says.

“It’s been great, I’ve gone from 4,000 square feet to about 7,000. Because it is urban, I operate all within city limits; I get to stay connected with people all the time and beautify some downtown lots.”

Finalists for the Small Business BC Awards, which celebrates the contributions of new and existing businesses with fewer than 50 employees will be announced on January 29.

“It’s great of course it’s super awesome and super considerate of the customer to nominate me because she went of her way to do that and that was really kind of her,” says van de Wijngaard.

“It’s also great because it’s a nomination too for Williams Lake in a sense for small businesses here to be put on the map.”
