Public consultation wanted for Cariboo Regional District Solid Waste Management Plan

The Cariboo Regional District released the updated draft for the Solid Waste Management Plan for public input.

In a release from the CRD, residents and businesses throughout the CRD add 42,000 metric tonnes of garbage to landfills, which totals 640 kilograms per person a year.

They say that the cost to manage the waste across the region lands at around $9 million per year.

The goal is to reduce the garbage being generated to mitigate cost increases, while also meeting resident’s recycling and composting expectations, meeting provincial targets, and protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Eight different options were proposed after the previous consultation back in June 2021, which they say if all were undertaken, it could reduce landfill waste by 100 kilograms a year per person.

The CRD will have a survey on the updated plan until May 31st, which can be found here.
