Williams Lake to host the Bike Rodeo once again

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex’s annual bike rodeo is set for Sunday May 7th.

In a release from the City, the Bike Rodeo is to promote safe bicycling habits to reduce accidents involving youth.

The event will provide an opportunity to learn correct riding skills and techniques, with an emphasis on learning how to control a bicycle.

The Safe Kids Canada website states that “children suffer injuries doing wheeled activities because of a combination of factors that most commonly include inexperience, loss of control, lack of traffic safety skills, high speed and the tendency to attempt stunts.”

Emma Davidson, Recreation Coordinator, said in the release that rider and bike safety is the theme but want the Bike Rodeo to be all about fun, and getting kids active and outdoors.

Registration is free, however space is limited for the event, with the City asking anyone wanting to participate to preregister here.

The Bike Rodeo will take place at the large back parking lot at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
