Province is encouraging communities to prep for possible floods

As temperatures start to warm, the likelihood of water levels rising is also increased.

In a release from the province, their asking people to prepare for potential spring flooding, as local governments and First Nations work to keep communities safe.

They say mid-elevation area could experience an increased flood hazard this weekend in low lying areas near rivers and streams, which includes the Chilcotins, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Cache Creek, and throughout the central Interior.

More area that could be affected can be found on the province’s website here.

Some ways to prepare include creating a grab and go bag, and protecting your home by moving equipment and objects to higher ground.

In the event of a flood, the province says to steer clear of river shorelines, and to not drive through flood water.

Currently there’s a flood watch in effect for parts of the North Cariboo.
