The Cariboo Fire Centre has announced a category 3 open fire prohibition across the region.

In a release from the Fire Centre, they say the prohibition will come into effect at 12:00pm on Thursday, May 4th.

The prohibition includes:

  • any fires larger than two meters high by three meters wide
  • three or more concurrently burning piles no larger than two meters high by three meters wide
  • burning of one or more windrows
  • burning of stubble or grass over an area greater than 0.2 hectares.

This does not include campfires half a metre high by half a metre wide or smaller, cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, and category 2 fires.

The prohibition is to prevent human caused wildfires, and will last until October 27th, at 12:00pm.
