Williams Lake Council reduce original proposed taxation

Williams Lake Council will continue with their taxation plans, but with a lower percentage than before.

Originally, the proposed residential tax increase was 16.5, but was decreased because of the 4th Avenue reconstruction project being put on hold for the year.

“We’ll still be collecting from residents, with an average of 11.8, utilities is 2.6, Industrial major and light is 2.1, business is 3.8, and recreation and non profit is 7.4.” says Surinderpal Rathor, Mayor.

“Overall tax collection is going to be 6.6 percent.”

For reference, overall taxation was increased 9 percent in 2022, with other previous years numbers on the first taxation story here.

Rathor believes everyone compromised to the best option available, with the only councillors opposed being Scott Nelson and Sheila Boehm.

Council will go through the process of adopting the bylaw on May 2nd.
