BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a prescribed burn on the west boundary of Yunesit’in IR, along the Deer Creek Forest Road.
The burn location is approximately 9 kilometers west of the Yunesit’in community and 15 kilometers south of Alexis Creek on the south side of the Chilcotin River.
BC Wildfire Service said burning will take place between April 20, 2023, and May 5, 2023, depending on weather, site, and venting conditions to allow for quick smoke dissipation.
Smoke and flames may be visible in the area, with firefighters closely monitoring the fire activity at all times.
The goal is for grassland benchmark ecosystem restoration by reducing the number of trees and shrubs.
BC Wildfire Service said this prescribed burn is a continuation of a small-scale landscape-level burning within the Yunesit’in caretaker area.
The total area to be burned is 30 hectares.
