Community Hall Renos Focus Of Next Coffee With Council In The South Cariboo

Residents of 100 Mile House will have an opportunity to discuss the proposed Community Hall renovations.

That will be the focus of the next Coffee with Council on Thursday, April 27, from 2 to 6 at the Community Hall.

Mayor Maureen Pinkney said now that the District is the owner of it we’re looking to see how we need to upgrade it.

“Besides the mechanical and all the stuff that takes a lot of money and isn’t so pretty, we want to modernize it and get it more functional as well as the other items like the kitchen and the handicap washrooms, and things to bring it up to code.”

Pinkney said there’s a split sort of comments around the community of keeping it traditional or modernizing it up and really making it a showcase in town.

“Right now our Community Hall displays some of our very important town murals and there are other locations that those boards can be relocated to but it’s what the people want,” Pinkney said, “do they want to see them relocated or do they want to see them stay where they are. We just like to have people’s input and then of course, Coffee with Council is open to any other discussions.”

Pinkney noted that they are going to take the information from this meeting and also put a survey on the District’s website to get more feedback and then digest what people are wanting.

“And then figure out the budget to go forward, we don’t want this to be an onus on the taxpayers so we’re going to be looking for some grants to get a lot of it done because we’re looking at over a million dollars for sure.”
