Prescribed Burns Scheduled For Chimney And Felker Lake Rec Sites

BC Wildfire Service is planning a series of controlled burns at Chimney Lake and Felker Lake recreation sites.

This project is conducted in support of Recreation Sites and Trails on a yearly basis to reduce wildfire hazards in the area.

BC Wildfire Service said the proactive use of fire will help clear out accumulations of grass and shrubs around the recreation sites and significantly reduce the threat of wildfire.

They noted that smoke and flames will be visible with firefighters closely monitoring the fire activity at all times.

Burning will take place between April 14th and 28th and the total area to be burned is 8 hectares.

BC Wildfire Service added that prescribed fire is often used to help protect communities and infrastructure in the wildland-urban interface, where developed areas border forests or grasslands.
