Seniors Advocate Visits Quesnel

BC’s Seniors Advocate held a meeting in Quesnel on Friday. (Nov 30)
Isobel Mackenzie spoke to around 30 seniors and care givers at the Seniors Centre.
Mackenzie says her role is to monitor the services to seniors, to look at the systemic issues affecting them and to make recommendations to government and service providers on how to improve things.
She says the concerns she heard in Quesnel revolved around the challenges people face in getting the supports they need to take care of loved ones.
Mackenzie says the concerns in rural areas like Quesnel are certainly different from those in the larger cities.
She says her arrival to a temperature of -9 was a definite reminder of that.
Another obvious challenge for rural areas is getting to specialist appointments in other parts of the province.
Mackenzie says she is constantly travelling the province.
She was in Williams Lake in May of 2014.
