Puntzi Mountain Coldest Spot In The Province

It was a cold start to the day throughout the Cariboo.

Even colder for some parts of the Chilcotin where Puntzi Mountain was recorded as the coldest spot in the Province with a temperature of minus 40.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau said temperatures dropped so low that an extreme cold warning was issued for the Chilcotin region

“Cold temperatures combined with Wind Chill making it near minus 40. That is expected to moderate throughout the day but again it’s going to be very cold again tonight and into the weekend.”

That extreme cold warning has since been lifted.

For the rest of the Cariboo Charbonneau said no records were broken but temperatures were 20 degrees below the seasonal average.

This morning 100 Mile House was minus 34, Williams Lake was minus 30 and it was minus 27 in Quesnel.

“For the next few days, this very cold air mass that’s sitting over us will bring daytime temperatures near minus 18 and overnight lows dipping into the mid-minus 20s. Our seasonal normals this time of year would be a high of around minus 2 and an overnight low of minus 9 so this is a very cold start to the month.”
