Xatśūll First Nation receives an award for a ranch agreement

The Xatśūll First Nations were the recipients of the 2022 Regional Impact BC Premier’s Award.

The award recognizes groups or organizations that develop and deliver programs, projects and initiatives benefiting citizens in a specific location.

“We’re quite proud to win this award, it took many hours from our treaty team, and their team have worked diligently along with the province and their team to achieve the goal we set out for this, and so it’s a proud moment.” says Mike Stinson, Councillor for Xatśūll First Nation.

The province is leasing a ranch to the Xatśūll First Nation, which they’ve used to provide beef to the community.

The ownership of the ranch will fall to the Xatśūll First Nation, once a treaty is reached.

Stinson added that they plan to continue to use the ranch through the lease, for their food sustainability in their community.
