Multiple Funds Coming to Support the Cariboo

Earlier today (Thursday), an announcement was made in Prince George about a new economic development agency.

PacifiCan, a federal economic development agency, will help innovate businesses, create quality jobs, and support inclusive growth in BC.

Federal Minister of International Development, and Minister responsible for PacifiCan, Harjit Sajjan, announced new offices in Prince George, Fort St. John, and Prince Rupert.

Funding was also announced for projects in multiple communities, including the Cariboo.

Within the Cariboo, the District of 100 Mile House and 150 Mile House, as well as the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club will get some funding.

“Well, it’s very close to our heart, the ski club, and a lot of people.” says Surinderpal Rathor, Mayor of Williams Lake.

“We need those amenities to attract the professionals to our region, to our area, and it’s one of them. There’s a lot more projects to come.”

The specifics of what communities will be getting are:

  • City of Williams Lake – Upgrade the amenities at two parks – $341,625
  • Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club – Create a Nordic visitor lodge and visitor amenities in Williams Lake – $300,000
  • District of 100 Mile House – Develop a tourism asset inventory, wayfinding strategy and e-bike service – $40,630
  • 150 Mile House – Upgrade rodeo venue infrastructure for tourism – $99,999

A total of over $3.1 million in funding was given to 13 projects in 11 communities, with the Cariboo receiving $782,257.
