Cariboo-Prince George MP Calls on Feds to do More for Mental Health

During the fall economic update that was released by the federal government, no new funding had been announced for mental health.

Todd Doherty, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George, expressed his disappointment in a statement he released.

“We know that Canadians mental well-being is suffering, and we need to take mental health seriously.” says Todd Doherty, Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George.

“There are so many stressors on Canadians now, rising cost of everything, inflation.”

A confidential report was brought forward yesterday (November 7th), where it revealed that Vancouver spent over 5.1 billion dollars for their social safety net in 2020.

Doherty added that even with that money, which equates to around 14 million dollars a day, we’re still losing people and still have people that are struggling.

“They viewed this as a healthy nation was a healthy economy, because it does impact every aspect of what we do. We know that every $4 spent on mental health, contributes $10 into economic well-being.”

He noted that if the government reinvests in Canadians, to help lead healthier lives, we would be a healthier nation.
