Quesnel officers will attend regimental funeral of Burnaby RCMP member killed in line of duty

Quesnel RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch says four or five members will be attending the regimental funeral of a Burnaby police officer killed in the line of duty.

He says they are going to show their support for the family and other members.

Kronebusch says losing a fellow officer always has a big impact.

“It’s something that always hits us hard.  You know we feel like a family sometimes, and anytime you lose a co-worker it hits everybody hard, it reminds you of the dangers of the job that we face.  It’s a real eye opener sometimes.”

We asked Kronebusch if it effects how they do the job ?

“I think everybody handles these types of situations differently, but it’s always something in the back of your mind when you’re on the job and attending these calls.  Even the most minor call can turn into something tragic, so safety is always paramount when we attend these things.”

Constable Shaelyn Yang’s funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 2nd at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Yang, who worked on the detachment’s mental health and homeless outreach team, was stabbed to death while responding to a call on October 18th about a man in a tent in a park in Burnaby.
