“The Cost of Gas is Affecting Everything”: Cariboo Chilcotin MLA

On Monday (October 17th), Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Lorne Doerkson spoke to legislature about the high costs of fuel.

Doerkson gave a speech pointing out that residents across the province, especially in rural areas such as the Cariboo are in need of help.

“We need targeted relief, and sending $110 back to people is, number one its not targeted, and number two it’s not really enough.” says Doerkson.

“My hope is that the government would consider just giving that discount at the pumps.”

Previously, the Premier stated that people could take transit. Doerkson said that the solution is frustrating, as its difficult to take the bus in rural BC.

Doerkson also noted that the cost of gas affects everything, as it adds multiple layers of additional costs.

“If a farmer or rancher is out making hay, diesel is costing more money than ever before, that’s an added cost.”

In the speech given, Doerkson made a note that BC regularly has disproportionally higher gas prices than any other province.
