Accident claims life on Highway 97 south of Williams Lake

Shortly after midnight, on Thursday, October 20, 2022, Williams lake RCMP responded to a collision on Highway 97 in 141 Mile.

Police said when emergency vehicles arrived on the scene they found a Hyundai Accent and a tractor-trailer unit had collided head-on, and following the collision, the semi caught on fire, and that the two occupants were able to escape the burning cab uninjured.

Police said the driver of the Hyundai, a 64-year-old woman from Lac La Hache, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“While this investigation is ongoing, police do not believe there to be a criminal element into the cause of the crash,” Staff Sargeant, Del Byron, Operations NCO Williams Lake RCMP, said in a release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-62-11.
