Fire Crews Continue to Take On Wildfire South of Puntzi Lake

The wildfire south of Puntzi lake is still considered out of control, as fire crews continue to work on containing the blaze.

As of right now, crews have completed the control line around the fire, and are now looking to reinforce the line by burning out fuel surrounding the area, and extinguishing it.

“It is still at 248 (hectares). It is the most accurate, it hasn’t changed but it’s just the most up to date and accurate size we have.” says Hannah Harris, Fire Information Officer for the Cariboo Fire Centre.

“I think there was an increase kind of from Monday. It’s not that the fire has grown, just that we got a better scan.”

Harris added that the crews and heavy equipment involved are two water tenders, a helicopter, a dozer and 40 firefighters.

The wildfire is also suspected to be human caused, and is being investigated.
