More students means more money in the budget for the Quesnel School District

The final enrollment numbers for the current school year were released at this week’s Board of Education meeting in Quesnel.

Secretary-Treasurer Jennifer Woollends provided the details.

“Our enrollment for this year is looking like it’s 2,982 students. That is a full-time equivalent so that is what we’ll receive funding on.  It is up from last year We budgeted this year for 2,933, so it’s 49 students from what we projected.”

Woollends says the Board of Education voted in favour of making the necessary adjustments.

“The Board did approve some additions to the budget, just in line with the increases to the number of students. We’re adding staffing to match that.  The Board approved in addition to the budget $553,800, and that was all to do with staffing.  It was teachers, education assistants and custodial.”

This year’s total of 2,982 is up from 2,949 at the end of last year.
