Wildfire South Of Puntzi Lake Hasn’t Grown Since Being Discovered Monday

BC Wildfire Service continues to battle a wildfire approximately 17 kilometers south of Puntzi Lake and 9 kilometers south of Highway 20.

Cariboo Fire Information Officer Hanna Harris said the fire is sitting at 248 hectares in size and is still listed out of control and had this update.

“Today the control lines have been completed. The crews have laid out a hose way. There are firefighters on the ground that are reinforcing the control lines by burning out surrounding fuel and following up by extinguishing it immediately after. Currently, the fire is also being supported by Industry, heavy equipment, and two helicopters. In total we have 40 firefighters on site,” Harris said.

Harris noted that the fire hadn’t since it was discovered on Monday (October 10) but the 248 hectares is the latest measurement and most accurate.

“No structures are being threatened and as for the cause it’s believed to be human-caused but it is being investigated,” Harris added.
