Draft Of Agricultural Area Plan Focus Of Open House In Williams Lake

The Cariboo Regional District and Upland Agriculture will be holding an Open House for the public to view the draft of the Cariboo Agricultural Area Plan.

The Plan presents a vision for the future of the agriculture and the food sector of the region focusing on actions local government with key partners, can support the local agricultural industry in both the short and long term.

It was put together following the completion of several engagements activities earlier this, including meeting with the members of the Agricultural Development Advisory Committee, interviews with stakeholders and producers, and a survey.

Nigel Whitehead, Manager of Planning Services with the CRD said they are looking for community feedback prior to the finalization of the plan and explains the purpose of the open house

“We’re focused mostly on what the CRD can do under our own authorities so examples would include reviewing our zoning bylaws to ensure that permitted agriculture uses are up to date, discuss how are economic development service can provide support, and help promote and expand agriculture in the region.”

Whitehead added that they’ll also be looking at ways the CRD can help the agricultural sector plan for emergencies such as wildfires and flooding.

The open house will be held at the Cariboo Arts Center on 4th Avenue in Williams Lake tonight (October 12) from 5 to 7.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Cariboo Regional District Agricultural Plan website to view additional information about the project and its timeline cariboord.ca/agplan
