Enrollment numbers are up in the Quesnel and Cariboo/Chilcotin School Districts

Preliminary numbers show that enrollment is up in both school districts in the Cariboo.

Jennifer Woollends is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Quesnel School District.

“Right now enrollment is looking at about, and we’re talking FTE’s (full-time equivalent students), at 2,970, which is about 37 to 40 over what we budgeted for.”

That is also up by about 22 from the end of the last school year.

Woollends says they have also noticed a change in how students are learning.

“From what we’re seeing it looks like a number of students have returned to classrooms from our distributed learning program as well as other programs, so I think that is partially why we’re seeing an increase in students.”

In the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District, and again these are preliminary numbers, Superintendent Chris Van Der Mark says they are anticipating an increase of around 200 students from around 4,600 to 4,800.

Final numbers will be available at the end of the month.
