Funding application for arena flooring at West Fraser Centre in Quesnel clears first hurdle

The North Cariboo Joint Advisory Committee is recommending to the Cariboo Regional District to include funds for arena flooring and storage in the 2023 capital budget.

The idea is to leverage that money to obtain a grant from the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

The CRD share and the grant would both be worth $137,500.

The proposed project would include an 18,000 square foot ice rink cover and a mobile storage trailer.

The flooring would allow the arena to operate as a multipurpose venue year-round while maintaining the ice rink for recreational use.

The report says the floor would also increase hosting capabilities for events such as concerts.
