Feasibility study released on potential indoor sports facility in Quesnel

A consultant is recommending that the best place for an indoor sports centre in Quesnel would be at the front of the Rec Centre.

David Hewko Planning and Program Management went over a feasibility study at last night’s North Cariboo Joint Advisory Committee meeting.

He also said that a pre-engineered metal building would be best the structure type at an estimated cost of $5,175,575 dollars for a 10,600 square foot facility.

The other potential sites that were looked at were the backside of the Rec Centre should plans for a gymnastics facility there not go ahead, beside the pool to the right of it, and finally at the soccer complex in West Quesnel.

The price tags were also similar, although the consultant said the operating costs would be more as a stand alone at the rec centre or the soccer complex.

The consultant also looked at other structure types, including using fabric or institutional quality wood.

It would be built to house sports such as basketball, volleyball and pickleball to name just a few.

The report was simply received as information by the committee.
