Today marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Lauren Chan, Director of Communications for the Salvation Army in BC, says their organization is noticing a lot of changes in the number of individuals who rely on their services.
Almost half a million British Columbians many of whom are children are living in poverty and facing food security on a daily basis.
Chan says a plan to eliminate poverty within the province of BC would be of great significance.
BC is one of the last provinces left without a poverty reduction plan.
An estimated 9% of Canadians live in poverty.
