Boys and Girls Club ‘Pumpkin Chucking’ Canceled

An annual fundraiser in which pumpkins and jack-lanterns are launched over 100 feet from the Cataline elementary field in Williams Lake has been canceled.

Executive Director for the Williams Lake Boys and Girls Club, Matt Neufeld says the Pumpkin Chucking event was canceled because they did not have anyone qualified to run their trebuchet.

“Normally our former executive director and her husband were able to put together that trebuchet and it’s really more a lot more complicated than people think,” he said.

“There’s a lot of math involved and mechanics involved in it, and he wasn’t available this year.”

Neufeld says the cancellation of the event which has run since 2011 will have no impact on the club in terms of fundraising.

The Club’s next event will be confidential HIV testing and information, as well as free food, and prizes in support of World AIDS Day on Dec. 3 at the Williams Lake TRU campus.
