The City of Quesnel is responding to some resistance over the upcoming change to bi-weekly garbage pick-up.
Mayor Bob Simpson confirms that the change away from weekly has not been popular with everyone but he says there is an option to size up.
He says there is a larger can which he says should be big enough, although he says there is an incremental fee to switch to the larger can.
Simpson says some people are also concerned that they are getting a reduction in service without a reduction in fee but he says they are also paying for overall waste management at the landfill.
He says the city is accruing costs at the landfill, our landfill is filling up and we need to reduce the waste going into that landfill.
Simpson says the savings they get from less garbage pick-up will help to pay for the extra costs at the landfill.
Bi-weekly garbage pick-up will start on November 16th.
