For a second straight year, holiday revelers in the Lake City will have to find another option for a safe ride home.

Marie-Chantal Fortin, National Development Coordinator for Operation Rednose said in BC only a small handful of organizations will be able to deliver this service which Williams Lake is not one of.

“It’s not going to be available in Williams Lake this year and many other communities as well. Hopefully, and we’re all crossing our fingers that we’ll all be back to normal and full operations in 2022 everywhere in BC.”

Fortin said this is a reflection of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our organization as well as so many others are really affected by this whole pandemic. Every local host organization had the opportunity to make the decision for themselves whether they were going to be able to operate this year and that’s a decision that depending on their own realities and capacities to actually be able to logistically be able to provide this service, and so for whatever reason in Williams Lake that’s not going to happen this year.”

The City of Prince George will also not be offering Operation Red Nose this holiday season.

Fortin added that their Provincial sponsor ICBC and Operation Red Nose want everyone to be safe this holiday season and to plan ahead on how they’re going to get home whether that be having a designated driver, calling a sober driver, using a cab, there are lots of different ways to get home safe and we encourage everybody to continue keeping their good habits of getting home safely.
