Brush Pile Burning Scheduled for The South Cariboo

Fall continues to be a busy time for BC Wildfire crews.

Madison Smith, Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre said the next planned burning of brush piles is scheduled to begin tomorrow (October 6th) in the South Cariboo.

“There’s a plan to burn 150 small brush piles on the West side of Highway 97 from the north end of the 108 Mile airport to the 108 Mile Heritage site. These piles were created earlier this year from clearing brush along the Highway in order to provide better visibility of wildlife.”

Madison said smoke will be visible from 108 Mile House and nearby areas and that traffic control will be on-site to ensure it remains safe for passing motorists.

Burning is expected to begin Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, and will continue periodically until October 15th, 2021, and will only occur on days when site and weather conditions are favourable and will allow smoke to dissipate.
