Succour and Flat Lake area restrictions rescinded

(Files by Pat Matthews – My Cariboo Now)

The area restrictions that were established around both the Flat Lake and Succour Lake wildfires will be rescinded today at noon.

The BC Wildfire Service said with the downturn in weather and reduced fire activity, there is no need currently to restrict these areas.

They remind the public that both the Flat Lake and Succour Lake wildfires are still an active wildfire and caution should be always exercised when travelling in these areas.

BC Wildfire Service said even if an area restriction has been rescinded, officials still have the authority under the Wildfire Act and its regulations to order anyone to leave the area.

Members of the public should be aware before entering any area affected by a wildfire, that significant safety hazards may be present.

The public is also being reminded that ground crews will be continuing to use resource roads in the area for suppression activity and to exercise caution when travelling these roads.
