Fire ban lifted in the South Cariboo

The fire ban in 100 Mile House was rescinded effective Friday (Aug 27).

“BC Wildfire is responsible for the jurisdiction outside of 100 Mile House but we have our own bylaw for outdoor burning that we are responsible for,” said Fire Chief Roger Hollander.

There does not appear to be worried about wildfires at this time thanks in part to mother nature.

“Our department doesn’t have any concerns doing that, obviously we make sure that the weather is headed in a positive direction and with the forecast being cooler and with the recent precipitation we aren’t concerned,” stated Hollander.

Caution remains the key while having a fire.

“People are still to be responsible for any open fires as there is always a possibility of fires spreading but as long as people do the typical safety reminders that we encourage there shouldn’t be a higher risk,” added Hollander.

Precautions to take include having water on standby, never leaving the fire unattended and putting out the fire before leaving.
