Accident that closed Highway 20 was a fatal

One person is dead and another seriously injured in an accident that closed Highway 20 west of Williams Lake.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Del Byron says a passenger in a 1997 Toyota Camry was killed when the vehicle left the road and struck a power pole at around 7-22 yesterday (Monday) morning.

He says the driver suffered serious injuries.

Names have not been released.

Byron says alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Drive BC is reporting that Highway 20 is now open west of Williams Lake.

It says the road between Chimney Valley Road and Bond Lake Road has now been cleared.

Williams Lake RCMP confirmed earlier today that they were called to a crash scene just west of Chilcotin Estates, west of the city, at 7-22 am.

Staff Sergeant Del Byron said it appeared that a west bound vehicle, a grey 1997 Toyota Camry, went off the road to the left and struck a power pole.

He says the vehicle ended up in the deep ditch.

There is still no word on any injuries at this point.
