Sword-wielding woman arrested in Downtown Williams Lake

Williams Lake RCMP has arrested one person after receiving a report of a woman brandishing a sword near City Hall.

Police say when they arrived, the female immediately picked up a sword and began to threaten police.

Police say she was arrested with the help of a Police Service Dog.

The 43-year-old female, who is known to police, was taken to Cariboo Memorial Hospital for a mental health assessment and treatment of a minor injury. There were reportedly no injuries to police or members of the public.

According to police, the female will be facing charges including:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

“The Williams Lake RCMP appreciate the members of the public who came forward with witness accounts or cell phone footage of this incident,” says Williams Lake RCMP Media Relations Officer Brett Squire, “If any other members of the public have information or video to provide, please contact the Williams Lake RCMP at (250)392-6211, and reference file 21-7234.”
