One person injured in early morning shooting in downtown Prince George

(Files by Brendan Pawliw-MyPGNow)

A woman has been hospitalized following a shooting in Prince George.

As a result, the Prince George RCMP has launched an investigation into a shots fired call near 5th Avenue and Ottawa Street just after 3 o’clock this morning (Friday).

When officers arrived at the “tent city,” they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and the severity of them is currently unknown.

Police say this appears to be a targeted incident.

“Police are aware that criminal activity in the area surrounding the “tent city” has increased,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.

“As a result, we have increased our patrols with expanded shift coverage in the area and are working with the city to
mitigate the issues and to ensure the safety of the public.”

The investigation is still in its early stages and officers will be in the area for an undetermined length of time.
