More than 68 percent of eligible voters participated in the 42nd General Election last night – a jump of more than 7 percent and the highest in more than twenty years.

The two ridings encompassing the Cariboo region saw some even bigger gains as the Cariboo-Prince George riding had 10 percent more voters than in 2011 to reach the national average of 68 percent.

The difference was even more striking in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo where 75.5 percent of the electorate chose to participate – a jump of more than 12 percent over 2011.

Numbers may have been even higher given that that current participation does not include voters who registered yesterday.
