A cultural center and museum will be developed after the Cariboo Regional District and Northern Secwepemc signed a milestone agreement today.
Irene Gilbert, President of the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society, says the cultural center and museum had been in the works for quite some time.
The building site was acquired through a lease of the land with the Cariboo Regional District near the 108 Mile Heritage site along Highway 97.
Al Richmond, Chair of the CRD, says projects of this nature show what can truly be accomplished when all levels of government, societies, and residents work together in collaboration.
The museum and cultural center are expected to be constructed in 2016 with a tentative opening scheduled for May 2017.
