Fewer Fires, Near-Record Loss of Timber

Although fewer fires burned in BC this year, an overheated forest fire season resulted in a near-record loss of timber.
Fire Information Sandra Wagner says the Cariboo Fire Centre responded to the well below average of 143 fires since April 1.

The largest fire of the year in BC occurred near the Chelaslie River at 133,000 hectares.

An estimated 1400 fires in BC destroyed more than 350,000 hectares of forest this season.
