A January meeting in Prince George is one of several planned across the country that will help build the framework for a national inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women.
When the inquiry was formally announced in December, Minister of Women Patricia Hajdu said they would be undertaking extensive consultations with first nations communities and victim’s families.
“This process must be culturally appropriate, inclusive and respectful to truly reflect the realities of first nations women and girls. But because this issue is complex we must be open to a flexible process that includes all voices.”
Right now two meetings are scheduled for BC; one in Vancouver on January 13th and another two days later in Prince George on the 15th.
The meetings will be closed to the general public and media, but general summaries will be posted on the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs websites following each event.
