North Cariboo residents got a look at what their new arena in Quesnel will look like at an open house in the old arena lobby Tuesday night.
A photo op with the equipment that is doing the site prep was followed by the presentation of the drawings and a picture of what the project will eventually look like.
Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson says he is comfortable that the Joint Planning Committee has designed a building that has all of the functional asks of user groups, will also include things that people asked for around acoustics and the ability to host non-ice events and that will also be aesthetically pleasing.
Simpson says the cost is still at around 18.8 million dollars but he says he thinks that will come down once the contingencies are taken out and he feels they will get a good price from the bidders because there isn’t a lot of building going on right now due to the economy.
The original pricetag is more in the $17.5 million dollar range.
Simpson says there are five qualified bidders.
He says they hope to award the contract around mid-December.
