UBCM Closes with Big Funding Announcements from Clark

Premier Christy Clark closed the Union of BC Municipalities Convention (UBCM) on Friday with several announcements.

$90 million in infrastructure grants, $5 million in crime-fighting dollars and $10 million towards wildfire protection.

The Premier also assured forestry towns across BC she is focused the softwood lumber agreement which expires next month.

“And I want you to know if you are from a forest community, whether that’s Vancouver or Surrey, Williams Lake or Burns whoever the newly elected Prime Minister is, my very very first call is to talk about softwood lumber.”

She also announced a $75 million dollar rural dividend for small towns… specifically mentioning Quesnel… that are going through an economic transition.

UBCM, which was formed to provide a common voice for local government, wrapped up in Vancouver.

March with Arch honoured at the College in Quesnel
