The Federation of Canadian Municipalities unanimously passed a resolution at the UBCM meetings that would see the group lobby the federal government for more financial support in the fight against the pine beetle.
The financial support would mean a great deal for communities ravaged by pine beetle damages says 100 Mile House Mayor Mitch Campsall, who points to Quesnel as a local example.
“It means more pine beetle money for when the beetle really hits hard. It’s already starting to, and Quesnel is a prime example of what’s going on. The areas are going to be needing it and it’s getting closer and closer every day.”
Under the resolution, the F-C-M would pressure the federal government into providing more than 100Â million dollars of additional funding to the various beetle action coalitions.
