UPDATE – One dead, another with serious injuries & four more in hospital following early morning collision

UPDATE

One person has been killed, with five more in the hospital following the multiple vehicle collision this morning in Quesnel.

Staff Sargeant Richard Weseen, with the Quesnel RCMP, said that the accident happened at 10:34 a.m.

“A northbound Q-Van rear-ended an SUV that was stopped for traffic on Highway #97 at North Star Road. That forced the SUV to collide with two other vehicles that were in front of it,” he said. “I can confirm that the driver of the SUV that was struck by the Q-van was pronounced dead at the scene. There was one other passenger from that vehicle that was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and another four people were also transported to the hospital.”

Traffic is being rerouted on the North Star Road off-ramp, and Weseen expects delays for several hours. Drivers are asked to check Drive BC for the latest traffic conditions.

North District Traffic Services is investigating the collision.
