A new program may be soon offered at the Thompson Rivers University Williams Lake campus.
The City of Williams Lake voted in favor of supporting a full-time Early Childhood Education diploma program to be offered.
Councillor Sue Zacharias says she fully supports the program being offered in the Lake City, as she has a family member taking the course online.
“She spent quite a bit of money. The course is reputable but it’s online and the money is going out of the community…I support it wholeheartedly.”
Councillor Surinderpal Rathor says it is important for the City to do everything they can to keep the campus alive.
“This year the University has closed their science department, how many students and classes got canceled? If we can keep those students here, it’s definitely a good environment and a win, win situation for our community.”
The City of Williams Lake says it will now write a letter to the Thompson Rivers University showcasing their support of the program.
